Hertz Weaver Guide

Hertz is the Maledictum-aligned frontline Weaver—an ex-convict Roseguard survivalist who steps between teammates and harm, wielding soundwave technology built for close combat and disruption. Confiction Labs tags him resilient, close-combat disruptor, and system specialist. His kit combines leap-in AoE, slowing auras, self taunt with damage reduction, and passives that scale with Lythogram pickups and near-death saves. Hertz ships with the five-Weaver Early Access roster on the planned August 11, 2026 Steam launch. Compare him with Rook for flexible control and Botsy for ranged zone denial before you assign your tank slot.

Why Hertz is solo-friendly

Many looter-shooters punish solo queue; preview coverage notes RIFTSTORM scales pressure more gently for lone Weavers than hardcore extraction titles. Hertz doubles down with Freestyle Solo, taunting nearby enemies while gaining temporary damage reduction—letting one player hold aggro without a dedicated healer. Encore increases maximum health per Lythogram obtained and grants temporary invulnerability upon hitting zero health once, giving solo players a forgiveness mechanic when mistakes happen near extract. That does not make you invincible: failed extracts still risk Weapon Scarring on carried gear per How to Extract.

Active skills

Stage Dive leaps to a target location, dealing AoE damage that scales with maximum health—your engage, reposition, and emergency interrupt. Tempo Shift creates a damaging aura that inflicts Slow, controlling packs while Starling or Caracal maintain range. Freestyle Solo is the signature tank button: taunt surrounding enemies and reduce incoming damage for a window. Chain Stage Dive into Tempo Shift when you land in a cluster, then Freestyle Solo when elites focus fire.

Passives: Encore, Ramp Up, Feedback

Encore ties survivability to Lythograms—pick health or defense-oriented upgrades when offered. Ramp Up grants Fury stacks when hitting debuffed enemies; each stack increases skill damage and damage reduction, rewarding you for applying Slow with Tempo Shift or allied debuffs from teammates. Feedback gives a chance to refill one Stage Dive charge when gaining Fury, enabling aggressive leap loops in long fights.

Co-op role

In trios, Hertz is the default frontliner who frees Starling to stack Momentum and lets Botsy set turrets behind his taunt. He lacks Rook’s mine zoning but wins longer trades and survives burst better. Position Kinetic Screen or turret lanes behind Hertz’s taunt radius for maximum squad DPS. Review Trio Comps and Team Tier List for tank-centric comps.

Build and gear notes

Hertz benefits from health-scaling weapons and mods crafted at the Forge Center. Stage Dive damage referencing max health means Periapt nodes that increase health or damage reduction have double value. Keep one scar-resistant loadout slot using Loadouts guidance—solo tanks absorb more deaths and failed extracts early in Early Access learning curves.

Threat and zone awareness

Tanking in Rift Exposure Zones increases incoming density; pair Threat Level choices from Threat Levels with your Periapt investment. Hertz can hold higher Threat sooner than glass cannons, but extraction-lite still punishes greed—extract with loot secured rather than chasing one more elite for a blueprint.

Limits

Hertz deals less ranged DPS than Starling or Caracal and less area denial than Rook’s mine toolkit or Botsy’s turrets. His value is stability: pick Hertz when your squad needs a forgiving front or when you queue alone without comms. Meta placement is covered in the Weaver Tier List.

First-session tips

Bind Stage Dive to a comfortable key and practice leap-taunt timing in the Steam demo before Early Access if it is available. Pick Lythograms that increase health or damage reduction early in a run so Encore and Stage Dive scale before you push into higher Threat Levels. When playing with friends, call out Freestyle Solo windows so Starling can hold fire through Kinetic Screen without stealing taunt. Extract with dignity: a dead tank at the evac point is how trios lose unsecure loot and trigger Weapon Scarring on multiple primaries at once.

FAQ

Frequently Asked Questions

Quick answers to the most common RIFTSTORM questions.

Why is Hertz considered solo-friendly in RIFTSTORM?

Freestyle Solo taunts and reduces damage; Encore adds health per Lythogram and a one-time invulnerability at zero health. Solo scaling is gentler than hardcore extraction titles.

How does Stage Dive scale?

Stage Dive deals AoE damage that increases with Hertz's maximum health—invest health via Lythograms and Periapt for bigger leaps.

Who pairs best with Hertz in trios?

Starling for backline DPS and Rook for stagger/mines are common. See Trio Comps and use the Squad Composer.

Does Hertz replace a healer?

No dedicated healer exists in the announced EA roster. Hertz mitigates damage and cheats death once via Encore, but extraction timing still matters per How to Extract.

When does Hertz become playable?

At the planned August 11, 2026 Steam Early Access launch with the full five-Weaver roster.
